Subitizing Dot Cards Teaching Resources

With these cards students can practice subitizing. Subitizing is quickly seeing and being able to say how many without counting. Subitizing is one of the foundations of arithmetic. At first students subitize perceptually. Next students subitize conceptually. This is where students begin to say how they see it. They might say, “I see 2 and 2 and that makes 4.” Teachers should practice subitizing at least 3 times or more a week. Teachers need a subitizing toolkit that includes dot cards, ten frames, dominos and dice.
